My Christmas blog post this year is about friendship, because without it this difficult year would have been so much harder.
John O’Donohue, the Irish poet and scholar, writes so beautifully about what true friendship is.
“In everyone’s life, there is great need for an anam cara, a soul friend. In this love you are understood as you are without mask or pretension. The superficial and functional lies and half-truths of acquaintance fall away. You can be as you really are. When you are understood you are at home”.[1]
I’ve come to realise that my work over the last decade, at its core, has been about helping people to be seen for who they really are. When someone feels truly seen it’s almost as though they’ve received a blessing.
There’s no greater a gift you can give to someone, especially when they’re going through a tough time.
Thank you so much for reading my blog. Wishing you friendship this festive season and beyond.
