Privacy policy version 1.6

Overview

Thank you for visiting our website engagingminds.co.uk. We want to explain to you what ‘personal data’ the website collects and what we do with it, including our use of ‘cookies’.

The website doesn’t itself collect any personal data like names, email addresses etc. as it doesn’t use a contact form or an embedded mailing list signup form. If you want to contact us, you may do so directly by email. Although we use Workspace by Google which encrypts emails, we can’t guarantee that your email will be encrypted at all stages of its life.

We have previously operated two mailing lists called The Engaging Minds Strengths Revolution Champions Network Newsletter and Engaging Minds Topical Updates. Please see Section 1. below for information about these lists.

If you downloaded certain White Papers or Thought Leadership Papers from the website prior to 23 January 2021 the links connected you to our Formstack-hosted forms, where you may have entered some personal data in order to receive your download. Please see Section 2. below for information about any data you may have entered via that Formstack process. Since 22 January 2021, we no longer use Formstack for these downloads and do not collect any personal data when you download the PDFs direct from our website.

The website collects an obfuscated (md5-hashed) version of your IP address for security purposes. Please see Section 3. below which explains why we do this and what it means for you.

Since 26 July 2022, the website does not place new cookies because we stopped using Google Analytics for tracking purposes and therefore no new Google Analytics cookies will be placed. Prior to 26 July 2022, the website placed Google Analytics tracking cookies and these may be stored in your browser until they expire. If you declined them via our ‘Cookie Notice’, then new Google Analytics cookies were not placed. Please see Section 4a. below which explains what Google Analytics cookies the website placed.

YouTube videos on this website are embedded using iFrame technology, which means that YouTube may place its own tracking cookies via the iFrame. However, for your privacy, iFrame content on our website will be blocked until you accept it via our Cookie Notice. Please see Section 4b. below which explains your options with respect to iFrames on this website.

Any data that is sent between your device and our website is encrypted for your protection — you can see the word Secure and/or a little padlock next to the url in your browser, this confirms that your browser has made a secure Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection to our website on the server.

Section 1. The Engaging Minds Strengths Revolution Champions Network Newsletter and the Engaging Minds Topical Updates mailing lists

If you have previously been on either of these lists, please note that both these mailing lists have now been deleted.

Section 2. Our Formstack-hosted PDF download process and Formstack-hosted forms, used prior to 23 January 2021

All personal data collected in relation to downloads of certain White Papers or Thought Leadership Papers from the website prior to 23 January 2021 has been deleted. Since 22 January 2021, we no longer used this method for our PDF downloads.

Section 3. IP address collection by Limit Login Attempts Reloaded security software and (previously) Google Analytics tracking

The website uses Limit Login Attempts Reloaded security software which tracks IP addresses to limit the number of login attempts from any IP address. This helps to prevent brute force attack login attempts by unauthorised users. We do this to keep our website protected and secure. However, we opt to turn on GDPR compliance, so all logged IP addresses get obfuscated (md5-hashed), which means you can’t be personally identified.

Prior to 26 July 2022, the website used Google Analytics tracking software so we could evaluate the effectiveness of the site in general terms, but we set it to ANONYMISE the IP addresses it collected, so you couldn’t be personally identified. You can read more about how this anonymisation worked and what it meant at https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2763052?hl=en.

Section 4. Cookies placed by our website

Section 4a. Google Analytics cookies

Prior to 26 July 2022, we used Google Analytics to monitor the effectiveness of our website. Google Analytics placed Third Party (placed by a Third Party rather than by our own website function) tracking cookies to monitor website traffic, and in particular whether a visitor to our website was a new user or a returning user. The cookies placed (along with their time to expiry and their purpose) were:

_ga      2 years  Used to distinguish users.

_gid     24 hours  Used to distinguish users.

_gat     1 minute  Used to throttle request rate.

For more details please read https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/cookie-usage.

Since 26 July 2022, no new Google Analytics cookies will be set.

Section 4b. iFrame cookies

You may use our Cookie Notice Decline option to block iFrame content, and any cookies it may place.

Until you Accept, as well as if you Decline cookies, then content embedded with iFrames, i.e. our YouTube videos, on our website will be blocked and replaced with a ‘placeholder’, however an alternative ‘text link’ to the video on YouTube is provided so that you may still view the content on the Engaging Minds YouTube channel; in that case, please see Section 5. below regarding other websites we may link to from this website.

If you Accept cookies, then our embedded YouTube videos will be displayed to you using iFrame technology, and you are therefore accepting that YouTube may place tracking cookies on your device via our website.

Changing your mind

If you have previously accepted cookies and you want to decline them from now on so that no new cookies are set, use the Reset your consent button that will appear below; if you have previously declined cookies and wish to accept them from now on, please use the Accept cookies button that will appear below.

Please note that whether you click Accept or Decline, First Party (placed by our website rather than by a Third Party website) ‘necessary and functional’ cookies may be placed by our WeePie Cookie Notice plugin to remember your preference (Accept or Decline) for 365 days, so we don’t keep annoying you with cookie notices every time you visit. These cookies are wpca_consent and wpca_cc.

Section 5. Other websites that we link to from our website

There may be links on this website to other websites. Once you leave our website and arrive at another website (where the url does not begin with https://engagingminds.co.uk), your use of that website will be governed by that website’s processes, and not by this engagingminds.co.uk Privacy Policy nor by our engagingminds.co.uk processes.

Section 6. Updates to this Privacy Policy

We are constantly reviewing data protection laws and reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The Privacy Policy will always have a version number in the heading, so if you contact us with questions, please quote the version number of the Privacy Policy that you are asking about.
